Nassau County Report
May 9, 2018
Last Wednesday, the Band once again took part in the Nassau County 37th Annual Youth Enrichment Programs Benefit Concert held in the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City, NY. Captain Charles Roberts (Nassau County Coordinator) did a marvelous job organizing the event and it was a great success. The highlighted group for the evening was the The Westbury Corps Junior Band under the leadership of Junior Lubin, playing Bill Gordon’s “Salvation’s Song”. NYSB members Devonte Thompson and Chris Webster, both products of the Salvation Army’s work in Nassau County, were highlighted soloists for the evening, playing “Donegal Bay” and “Grandfather’s Clock”. It was a particular treat for the band to be led by former Band Chorus leader and Principal Euphonium Major Thomas Mack, in the singing of “Rock of Ages”. This concert is always a great way for the band to finish off the season leading up to Commissioning weekend, and the addition of the Great American Brass Band Festival this year.
