The New York Staff Band is pleased to announce that the world famous Black Dyke Band will be the special guests for the band’s 129th Annual Festival and will take place at the Centennial Memorial Temple on March 19, 2016.
In June of 2015, the Black Dyke Band and NYSB joined forces in the UK and was a widely successful concert. Following the success of this event, both bands made it a high priority to work out another concert together. Bandmaster Waiksnoris says this about the upcoming event, “The New York Staff Band is thrilled to be able to feature the Black Dyke Band along with their illustrious conductor, Professor Nick Childs, as guests at our 129th Annual Festival. It was our privilege to partner with the Black Dyke Band at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester UK this past June. There was an immediate connection between the bands. Black Dyke Band lives at the pinnacle of brass banding and we will take pride in being able to showcase them in The Salvation Army’s beautiful Centennial Memorial Temple on 14th Street in New York. Black Dyke Band has played in New York before at Carnegie Hall on a couple of occasions but it has been some time. This will be an opportunity for anyone wanting to hear the best in British brass banding in a beautiful acoustic.”
The Black Dyke Band is the most recorded band in the world with over 350 recordings and growing every year. It is also the most successful contesting band in the world having won the European Championships twelve times, most recently in 2012, the British Open no fewer than 30 times (most recently 2014) and the National Championships of Great Britain 23 times (most recently 2014). In 2009, and again in 2011, 2012 and 2013, the band became Champion Band at the English National Championships and were named English National Champions in 2014 by virtue of having won the National Brass Band Championships in October 2014.
