November 17-19, 2018

The New York Staff Band’s most recent ministry weekend was spent in Canada, with stops in London, Oshawa, and Toronto. This was the first visit back to Canada since March 2011 when the NYSB were the guest band at the Canadian Staff Band’s (CSB) 42nd Anniversary Festival in Toronto.

The first engagement of the weekend was at the London Citadel Corps where we were hosted to a wonderful meal and played to a full enthusiastic crowd. This was the NYSB’s very first visit to London Citadel, a corps with such a rich Army heritage that is still thriving today.

On Saturday morning, we met up with the CSB, London Citadel Timbrels and other musicians / timbrelists from around the Ontario Central East division at the Toronto Korean Corps to prepare for the Santa Claus Parade the following day. This was a good time of practice and fellowship (and coffee!).

We then headed to the Oshawa Temple Corps for a sound check and massed band rehearsal with the CSB in preparation for the Fall Festival. After another amazing meal (roast beef) and a little time to relax, it was time to partner with the CSB for the Fall Festival. It was clear that both bands were having fun even before sharing the platform. Once again, it was a capacity crowd full of band enthusiasts expecting a good old fashioned Army band concert. At one point in the concert, there was a word of gratitude (and standing ovation) for Ted Marshall, who was the recording engineer for SA groups around the world for many years and holds a special relationship in particular with the NYSB and CSB. We were privileged to take part in the Fall Festival with the CSB. It is always wonderful to be around fellow Salvationist musicians so that we can encourage each other, and share in our goal of music ministry.
