NYSB Executive Officer
Lt.-Colonel Richard Munn
The New York Staff Band is saddened that Major Richard Munn will be leaving us as Executive Officer. However, we are pleased to announce that he has been appointed to International Headquarters as the Principal of the International College for Officers and Center for Spiritual Life Development and the Secretary for International Ecumenical Relations with the rank of Lt.-Colonel. We thank Lt.-Colonel Munn for his enthusiastic service and ministry with and to the band.
While we are sad to see Lt.-Colonel Munn go, we are pleased to announce that Major Thomas Mack has been appointed as the new Executive Officer.
Major Thomas Mack
Major Thomas V. Mack was born in Boston, MA, to Salvation Army officers who held appointments in Oregon, California, Arizona, Idaho, Pennsylvania and New York. Commissioned in 1963, he has held a variety of appointments in the territory and, since 1985, his appointment has been that of Legal Secretary for the USA Eastern Territory. Major Mack’s formal educational background includes music theory and harmony studies at the Hartt School of Music and liberal arts studies at Bronx Community College, Adelphi University and Pace University. He holds a diploma in paralegal studies from New York University and earned his bachelor of science degree in organizational management from Nyack College, (Nyack, NY).
Major Mack was the euphonium soloist of the New York Staff Band from 1970 through 1990, the band’s chorus leader from 1975 to 1990 and from 1997 to 2008, and deputy bandmaster during the 1990 season. He continued in the band, playing baritone and serving as band chorus leader and chaplain until his appointment as executive officer July 2008. Major Mack was also the bandmaster of The Salvation Army Hempstead Citadel Corps Band (Hempstead, NY) from 1981 to 1990 and has been the corps songster leader since 1993. Several of Major Mack's band and vocal compositions are printed in various Salvation Army publications.
Please join us in prayer for Major Richard Munn's ministry in his new appointments and for Major Thomas Mack as he takes on his new role with the Band.
The New York Staff Band prayer ministry has been an important part of our weekly devotions for some time now. Some of you may have received the cards letting you know that we have prayed for you. We have heard many times how God used this ministry to encourage people when they need it most.
The New York Staff Band would like to extend it's ministry by encouraging you, our supporters, to join us in prayer for these individuals. Every week, more names will be added. We believe and have seen that God honors the prayers of His people, so we invite you to pray with us on their behalf. We trust that through this ministry, others will be encouraged and strengthened in their daily walk.

(2008 Future All-Stars)
“The Future All Star weekend was extraordinary! The Spirit of God is in this!....” (Commissioner Nancy Moretz, 2007)
“…the FAS came with a sense of unity and honesty of spirit- a unity of wanting to produce excellence of music and honesty before God and fellow Christian musicians.” (Major Thomas Mack, 2007)
“It seems that the FAS weekend is increasing in musical proficiency and spiritual depth with each successive year. The dynamism is quite dramatic.” (Major Richard Munn, 2007)
The NYSB Future All Stars program is committed to Salvationist young people ages 13-18 that are eager to serve the Lord through quality dedicated musicianship-
It was sunny and 24 degrees in New York when the NYSB boarded a plane and headed for Orlando, Florida. Greeted by sunny skies and 65 degrees the NYSB embarked on a weekend of ministry in The Villages,
Winter Haven, and Vero Beach. The Band was greeted by enthusiastic listeners at each venue. It was a great opportunity to both share the Gospel through music and share the mission of The Salvation Army.
