The band recently completed another busy weekend by first supporting the GNY Division's Kettle Kick Off in Time Square on Friday, a location that someone described as being "the center of the universe." After the launch, the band boarded an open topped bus and toured Manhattan playing at selected stops en route. This brought back memories of the movie "Brassed Off", and although the sun was shining it was cold!

On Saturday the band travelled to join Lts. Herb and Miriam Rader in New London, CT. to celebrate 125 years of service of The Salvation Army in that community. After free time in the morning visiting the Submarine Museum, the band played in the Mall to an appreciative crowd to launch the kettle campaign. The evening concert was held in the auditorium of Connecticut College and the major work of the evening was "Hope" from the pen of the talented Dorothy Gates. Toshiyuki Shimada, the Musical Director of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony and the Yale Symphony was the guest conductor for the Carmen Dragon arrangement of "America the Beautiful." The band also presented a new march by Norman Bearcroft, entitled "Homeward Bound", specially written for the occasion.

After a night stop at the beautiful setting of Connri Lodge and Conference Center, the band conducted the morning worship at Hartford Citadel. It was good to see a full chapel with the local congregation being joined by the men from the ARC. During the service Staff Bandsman Andrew Garcia gave a personal testimony and the band contributed with the classic Eric Ball selection, "Serenity." The message was shared by the band Executive Officer, Lt. Colonel Kenneth W. Maynor, preaching from the Book of James which resulted in the mercy seat being lined twice during the invitation.

After lunch at DHQ, the band boarded the bus for the return journey back to New York. Yet another satisfying weekend of glorifying God through great music and leading people to a knowledge of Jesus Christ.
